Abstract
This study aims to provide a comprehensive literature review on the status and teaching of the French language in Jordan and the Arab world, focusing on developments between 2018 and 2025. The research analysed eight peer-reviewed studies examining the sociolinguistic position of French, teaching approaches, and related educational policies. The findings indicate that French maintains a strong cultural and educational presence in North African countries, while its spread remains limited in the Levant and the Gulf, with gradual growth in Jordan. The review also highlights a pedagogical shift from traditional grammar-based methods to communicative and culturally rich approaches, emphasizing the pivotal role of teachers in adapting to blended and remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study offers practical recommendations to enhance French language education, including aligning curricula with local contexts, developing teacher training programs, and leveraging digital tools to support learning continuity. This literature review provides strategic insights for policymakers and educators seeking to improve French language teaching in the Arab world.
